The games are FREE-TO-PLAY. Before the idea of free=crappy game play scares you off, give these a try. They are a little better than your run-of-the-mill ‘bored to death within minutes” games.
Follow the link to get Ben’s take on the games. Here’s the list:
Spiral Knights
Cute, knights, robots, armed to the teeth, co-operative play, adults and kids
The Lord of the Rings Online
You probably know all about this Middle-Earth world of hobbits, orcs, and goblins. No longer a subscription-only game but still just as nice.
Create your own character, battle with the bad guys, explore Tolkien’s world and have fun.
World of Tanks
Giant tanks battling each other with giant tank weapons. Lots of tricks to learn and keep you occupied for a long time. Very worthwhile trying.
Battlestar Galactica Online
Space game based on the popular TV show – the second season. Choose to play as Cylon or Human and continue the struggle for dominance by completing missions and dogfight in a Colonial Viper or Cylon Raider.
Free Realms (PS3)
Minus the chat, this is still a very nice game set in a 3D virtual world where you are in complete control. Decorate your house, dress up your pet, battle enemies, search for treasure, race your car. Very kid friendly and lots of fun.
Vindictus
Slightly toughter than Free Realms, this is a no-holds-barred action game steeped in Celtic mythology. A real slasher and brawler, this game is not for kids.
Pocket Legends (iOS)
Leading massively-multiplayer online role-playing game is free for a good five to six hours and then you start forking over 99-cents for each new area. Like Warcraft but a lot more portable.
